Such a Seminar was taught by Mr. Pablo J. Specially oriented and intended for Governmental employees, universitary staff, researchers and professors, the objectives of the Seminar included the need to awaken the motivation of researchers regarding the real opportunities in relation to international scientific cooperation, and how to take the first steps to such extent, getting to know the reality and future possibilities of scientific international cooperation in Central America, Identify and become aware of the profiles of all international funding sources for scientific projects, as well as those initiatives likely to obtain international funding and, last but not least, to prepare the participants for the use of the methodology needed to write scientific and technological proposals oriented towards the international cooperation, providing everything that is needed to its analysis, monitoring and execution control.

The 2-day meeting included a theoretical part -during which the international cooperation scene was described, focusing on science and technology and the VII Framework Programme; and a practical part, in which the work was concentrated on the writing, implementation and management of a sample proposal.

Due to the success of the Seminar and the interest that it has stirred up, it was decided to organize a new seminar, that would expand and develop further on those modules that were introduced in January, during March 2010.

THE ALFA III CALL FOR PROPOSALS IS OPENED

ALFA is a programme of co-operation between higher education institutions (HEI's) of the European Union and Latin America.
The ALFA programme began in 1994 and sought to reinforce co-operation in the field of Higher Education. The programme co-finances projects aimed at improving the capacity of individuals and institutions (universities and other relevant organisations) to promote academic exchanges between the two regions.
The launching of the ALFA III Programme and its 1st Call for Proposals is now a reality. Networks of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and other relevant cooperation institutions are invited to prepare applications for grant funding under the new programme on higher education cooperation for Latin America. Projects will include "Joint Partnerships" of European and Latin American institutions and "Structural Measures" that aim to reform education systems in Latin America. A third component of the Programme will fund "Accompanying Measures", ie. horizontal activities to promote the Programme's visibility and results of approved projects.
